My name is Casey Escola and I'm a Master's student in the Sociology of Education department at New York University. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon and studied cultural anthropology at the University of Washington in Seattle. An avid reader and prolific crafter, I've worked as a teacher for more than five years in preschool and special education classrooms in New York and Seattle, and I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin, West Africa specializing in maternal and child health care outreach.
I'd like to utilize my cultural studies background to better understand how primary school-aged children form personal identities within social and academic settings. I hope to pursue a PhD in Education to write curriculum that motivates teachers and brings students' sense of self to the forefront of education initiatives.
